Lantana 5K run for kids sake

The fourth annual Run Lantana 5K will be held this Saturday, Sept. 14, with all of the proceeds raised going to the Cumberland Children’s Home.

Mark Norton, Lantana Community Association Deed Restrictions Coordinator, said the event has gotten bigger each year and that is a trend he hopes to see continue.

“We’ve had good responses every year,” Norton said. “We always try to do at least as well as we have the previous year and we typically have very good participation.”

Last year, more than $8,000 was raised for PediPlace and the goal for his year is to raise at least that much for the Cumberland Children’s Home.

A new feature for this year’s run has been the formation of a group called the Run Lantana 5K Committee, which was designed to help oversee the event.

“We just felt like it was time to get homeowners involved from the community,” Norton said. “We’ve always had interest from the homeowners in the 5K, and we just felt like this would be a good chance for them to be able to participate in the organization and the operation of it and help put it all together. The committee has been every instrumental in helping us out this year.”
