Want to get plugged into your community and give back a little at the same time?
The Highland Village Women’s Club (HVWC) is holding a membership meeting on Wed., Sept. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in The Grotto Restaurant at 2300 Highland Village Rd.
“It is a social organization, but one that gives back to the community…that’s what makes us unique,” said Donna Romano-Gardner, HVWC co-president. “Its members also engineer major fundraising efforts to help both local charities and individual families.”
During the holiday season, the members do everything from coordinating with the city on an annual “Our Village Glows” tree lighting ceremony, to conducting poinsettia sales and a Christmas auction.
Through these efforts, the club raises money for three specific areas: educational, in the form of scholarships to local students and donations to the Lewisville Education Foundation; the Rose Fund, which assists individual families in need; and, the Gifts of the Heart program, which produces donations to local charitable organizations.
This year, Gifts of the Heart made contributions to: Denton County Community Partners; Special Abilities of North Texas; Our Daily Bread; Spirit Horse Therapeutic Riding Center; and the Highland Village Parks and Recreation Department.
“Our goal is to bring ladies together and through fundraising, give back to our community,” said Publicity Chairwoman Ellen Sloan-Hintz.
While the club has many upcoming events and fundraising initiatives set for the future, its focus now is bolstering the current 35 women membership.
“We encourage women from all age groups to join,” said Romano-Gardner.
