Updated: Three hospitalized after head-on collision

A head-on collision involving a pickup truck and an SUV snarled traffic on FM 2499 Monday afternoon and sent three people to the hospital.

Flower Mound’s police and fire departments were dispatched to the scene around noon and found the wreckage in the northbound lanes of 2499 at Pecan Drive, just south of Waketon Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Arial Scott Alan, 29, of Flower Mound, was heading southbound when it crossed over the median and slammed head-on into a Chevrolet Suburban in the northbound lane.

Alan was not injured in the crash.

Two CareFlite Medical Helicopters responded to the scene and transported two occupants of the Suburban to Medical Center Plano with serious injuries. An additional passenger was taken by ambulance to Denton Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Amy Nickell Monroe, 42, of Flower Mound, remains hospitalized, while the other two injured passengers were treated and released. A 6-year-old Flower Mound girl in the Suburban was not injured.

“We do not anticipate any charges (against Alan) at this time,” said Flower Mound Police Captain Richard Brooks.

“The driver stated he looked down to change the radio or the air conditioner and the next thing he knew he felt a bump and then a crash. He does not remember.”

All traffic on FM 2499 was moved to the southbound lanes for several hours while authorities cleared the accident scene.
