Work on Lantana’s new water tower is expected to start this month to make way for the Lantana Town Center retail development.
Houston-based NewQuest Properties recently completed its purchase of land on the southwest side of Lantana along FM 407 from Republic Property Group (RPG).
NewQuest is building an exact replica of the existing water tower on the north side of FM 407 west of Lantana Trail and tearing down the old one at its expense.
“The process will take about a year,” said Tony Ruggeri, an executive vice president with RPG. “Once the new water tower is constructed and accepted by Lantana’s Fresh Water Supply District, the old, existing one will be taken down.”
After the new water tower is operational, Ruggeri said it will take approximately another year to construct the much-anticipated shopping center.
Lantana Town Center will include a large, major-chain grocery store anchoring a number of smaller retailers in the triangle created by FM 407, Jeter Road and McMakin Road.
Although NewQuest and RPG officials remain mum on which grocery chain will anchor Lantana Corner, it is widely rumored that a Kroger Signature store will locate there.
NewQuest also acquired land on the north side of FM 407 across from the grocery store site with plans to build a smaller retail development at a later date.
“It’s a great day for Lantana,” said Ruggeri. “We are probably looking at a 2015 opening for the shopping center.”
