Conference Big Success in Argyle

The Taste of Argyle and New Business Horizons Conference was a big success, with approximately 70 community leaders, business owners and residents present for the event.

“The New Business Horizons Conference featured Dr. John Baen, Professor of Real Estate at the University of North Texas,” Luedke said. “Dr. Bean summarized his thoughts on the state of the economy and identified key opportunities for future growth in Argyle.”

Former Argyle High School short stop and star quarterback Austin Aune decided to forgo Texas Christian University for the time being to sign with the New York Yankees, for which he received a $1 million signing bonus.

Aune received a full scholarship to TCU for football and was expected to play baseball there as well.

Argyle Public Works Making Progress on Several Projects

The Town of Argyle Public Works department is making headway on numerous ongoing projects.

According to Director of Public Works Troy Norton, “the Public Works Crew has been installing sod in the Old Town District and The Settlement. We have put together a list of all mailboxes that need height adjustment and eyebrow turnouts and are working to get estimates for the work. ”

In addition, construction of Country Lakes Phase 3C-2 is underway, and the contractor has installed the sanitary sewer lines and is in the process of installing the storm sewer system.

Norton said he is also working on the FY 2013 Budge for public works streets and wastewater departments, and on a more melancholy note, Bob Reynolds has resigned with the public works department to be close to his family in Pennsylvania.

Yards of the Month
Submitted by Debbie Ingram

The Keep Argyle Beautiful board has chosen Jason and Candace Lillard, 628 Forest Trail Dr., and Chris Robinson of the Robinson Financial Group, 130 Old Town Blvd. #100, as the winners of June’s Yard of the Month.

The Lillards have a “new” landscape using water wise principles of planning and design with beautiful, easy, low maintenance and money saving plantings.  They have adapted and native plantings with plenty of mulch and efficient irrigation.

Robinson Financial Group pops out with curb appeal!  They use drip irrigation to maintain their beautifully landscaped and colorful beds. They have primarily used Texas friendly and Texas Star plantings.  Congratulations to both of these

Argyle Yard of the Month winners!

Notes from Mayor Smith

Summer is municipal budget season, and we are in full swing here at Town Hall!  Staff continues to monitor the current FY12 Budget expenditures as they re-estimate and then project FY13 Budget needs within a flat revenue season. Their goals are to maintain the current level of services that our citizens expect and consider any enhancements within their budget constraints. The state mandated public hearing on the budget will be September 11, 2012.  Thanks to Kim Collins, our Director of Finance, for the update!

The Argyle Lions Club was approved on June 19!  We are officially club number 117210. We are excited to be a part of this great organization and look forward to all of the opportunities that the Lion’s Club International can bring to our community!

I had a great time with the Argyle Senior Citizen’s at their Hawaiian Luau on June 15!  There were 46 seniors in attendance dressed in Hawaiian attire. Everyone had a great time and said the food was delicious.  The next 3rd Friday event will be on July 20th. For more information call Stella McDaniel at (940) 464-7438.
