Highland Village will get a newly refurbished Kroger grocery store with gas pumps out front.
A three million dollar capital investment by Kroger to update the store at FM 407 and Highland Village Road, along with the addition of a fuel station, will be part of a site plan amendment the city anticipates receiving in the next 30 days, according to Highland Village Mayor Scott McDearmont.
At the May 8 City Council meeting, council members received a presentation from city staff on the proposed improvements to the 61,374 square foot Kroger store, which anchors the 17-year old Highland Village Town Center shopping complex.
McDearmont said that the city and Kroger have wanted to upgrade the store location for the past several years.
“Revitalization of the FM 407 corridor in eastern Highland Village will be a priority moving forward for the city. Personally I am proud the city will work with Kroger to ensure the success of our store using a proven successful business model,” said McDearmont.
A similar proposal to upgrade an aging Kroger store in neighboring Flower Mound and add gas pumps was rejected by town officials last fall due to traffic safety concerns.
