We were pleased to host a pre-construction meeting with Lane Construction recently, and representatives from the Town of Copper Canyon and Canyon Oaks. We outlined the construction process for Copper Canyon Road as we advance towards the project that begins next month.
Copper Canyon Road Phase II will be the reconstruction of Copper Canyon Road from FM 407 to approximately 3,200-feet northwest of the intersection of Hickory Hill and Copper Canyon Road. This project will include the removal of the existing 22-feet wide asphalt roadway and replacing it with a 32-feet wide concrete section (the proposed section will be reduced to 24-feet wide north of Hickory Hill and Copper Canyon Road). Major drainage improvements will be made along the length of the project including larger culverts, and storm drain systems to help accommodate the frequent flooding that occurs now.
The contractor for the project will be The Lane Construction Corporation out of Roanoke, TX. They are also the contractor for the FM 407 project that connects to Copper Canyon Rd which is currently scheduled to start construction in February of 2012.
Construction will be done in three to four separate phases. The first phase will be from FM 407 to just south of Winding Creek Way. During this phase Copper Canyon Road will be closed from FM 407 to just south of Winding Creek Way. However, residents that live within that phase will have access at all times to their property. The traveling public will be using Chinn Chapel Road and Orchid Hill as temporary detours. Once complete, motorists that access this phase will be able to travel both southbound and northbound leaving their residence.
The next phase will include north of Phase I to Orchid Hill Lane. At this time, through traffic will only be able to travel northbound (traffic will not be able to travel southbound on Copper Canyon to reach FM 407). Once complete, motorists that access this phase will be able to travel both southbound and northbound leaving their residence.
The next phase will go from Orchid Hill/Copper Canyon Road intersection northwest approximately 4000-feet. A portion of this phase (from Hickory Hill/Copper Canyon Rd to Orchid Hill) will be built first to expedite the through traffic to FM 2181. Once the construction is complete between Hickory Hill and Orchid Hill traffic will be allowed to go either southbound or northbound from FM 2181 to FM 407. However traffic will still be restricted to North/Westbound between Hickory Hill and the end of the project (approximately 3200-feet northwest of Hickory Hill/Copper Canyon Intersection).
Construction is scheduled to begin on January 4th, 2012. At that time the contractor will close down Phase I of the project to begin construction.
Traffic will be detoured to use Hilltop, Chinn Chapel, FM 2499 or FM 407 depending on which direction they are trying to go. Each phase of construction will take different amounts of time to construct. The project is scheduled for an 18 month period. Thus construction for the project will be complete in June 2013.
