Mayor will not seek second term

Highland Village Mayor Scott R. McDearmont, MD has announced his intention to not seek reelection in May of 2012.

McDearmont has served on the Highland Village City Council since 2006 and as mayor since May 2010.

“2012 will present me with an extremely positive opportunity to expand my medical practice. To this end I have decided not to seek reelection to Highland Village City Council, Place One/Mayor,” said McDearmont.

“I have no doubts about the capabilities of members of this community to step up and serve.

“I have enjoyed my service and look forward to working for our citizens until May of 2012. The roles of husband, father, physician, and surgeon will continue to be the most important in my life.”

The filing period for the open position will begin in February 2012.

“I wanted prospective candidates to have adequate time before February to decide to run for this office.  Serving the citizens in any elected capacity is an extremely important undertaking, and should not be a snap decision,” said McDearmont.

McDearmont will continue to live in Highland Village with his family and work as a board certified general surgeon in Denton County.
