Crowds flock to Turkey Trot

Over 170 people participated in the first annual Double Oak Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning.

Walkers and runners of all ages from Denton County and nearby areas gathered before 8:00 a.m. in front of Double Oak Town Hall and proceeded along the 3.1-mile route through town and back again to the finish line.

Organizer Geoff Reese said that he was pleased with the turnout considering how quickly the event was put together.

“A little over three weeks ago my wife and I were talking about what we were doing for Thanksgiving and deciding if we wanted to do the Dallas Turkey Trot. Not sure we wanted to fight the traffic, we both looked at each other and said, “Why don’t we have our own Turkey Trot in Double Oak as a fundraiser for North Texas Youth for Christ,” said Reese.

“After rapid crazy planning we put it together. We had no idea this thing would explode like it did.”
