A long time coming

Highland Village leaders past and present, along with their counterparts from neighboring towns and county and state officials, celebrated Saturday after cutting the ribbon on Section 4 of FM 2499.

The four-lane, 4.7-mile stretch of road transverses the western edges of Lake Lewisville and provides a direct link between the lakeside cities of Highland Village and Corinth.

“After all the years and years of development, planning and construction of Section 4, the citizens of Highland Village, Corinth, Denton and all the surrounding cities will greatly benefit from this new access between those north and south of the lake,” said County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell.

“Because of the opening of Section 4 of FM 2499, shopping, dining and entertainment options in Highland Village will now be more accessible from surrounding communities,” said Highland Village Mayor Scott McDearmont.

The planning of FM 2499 began in the mid 1980’s with the formation of the FM 2499 Task Force in 1987.
