Sock Hop to help furnish senior center

Tickets are now available for “IHOP at the Sock Hop,” a 1950s-themed dinner, dance and raffle on Saturday, Nov. 13, benefiting Flower Mound’s seniors.

SIM Auxiliary Inc., the nonprofit organization supporting Flower Mound’s Seniors in Motion program, is partnering with IHOP and Pinewood Hills senior living center to provide a night of good food and fun, with proceeds helping to furnish the town’s new senior center.

IHOP is making burgers, fries, floats and other finger foods, and Pinewood Hills will host the event in its dining room at 3901 Kirkpatrick Lane in Flower Mound, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Disc jockey Tommy Chandler will provide music, dancers from Excite! gym and dance studio will perform, and members of the Flower Mound Town Council will play a live round of Family Feud. Root beer cupcakes will be provided by 8th Wonder Cupcakes, 2608 Long Prairie Road. A flat-screen TV and other prizes will be raffled off at the event.

“I want to thank IHOP and Pinewood Hills, in particular, for graciously stepping up to put on this event,” said Mary Kay Walker, president of Sim Auxiliary Inc.

“They are both fantastic organizations in our community, and there is such a need for support of Flower Mound’s seniors program, especially with the new senior center in the works.”

The town is refurbishing a municipal building next to Town Hall as an interim standalone senior center. Currently the SIM program, with some 800 members, operates out of a room at the Community Activity Center.

SIM Auxiliary formed last year as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to raise funds to help furnish the inside of a senior center in Flower Mound, and to generally support Seniors in Motion. It has launched a membership program and also is soliciting in-kind donations of items for the SIM program, such as a grill and commercial dishwasher.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Advance tickets are available by calling Mary Kay Walker at 214-417-8939; at Pinewood Hills; and at the Edward Jones Invesments office of Paul Foutch, in the Tom Thumb shopping center on FM 407 at Morriss Road.
