Music students hit the right notes

Students of Music Starz Studios in Flower Mound competed in the 96th Texas Music Teachers Association Annual Convention – June Leondar Chamber Music/ Ensemble Competition on June 12 in Arlington, Texas. The theme was “Time to Play!”.

Ninth grade students, known as 9 Quintet, won first prize and $100 cash prize in the 7-9th grade division. 9 Quintet includes Sarah Song, Shirley Zhu and Maya Rao, all from Flower Mound High School, and Kelsey Molina and Noah Vaughan of Lewisville High School.

Two ensembles from Music Starz Studios entered the competition in the 10th -12th grade category. Adrienne Phang, a junior at Flower Mound High School and Christian Choi, a junior at Texas Academy of Math and Science, competed as the LF Duo.

Twin brothers, Alex and Zack Williams, juniors at Marcus High School, also known as the Williams Duo, won first place and $100 cash prize in the 10th -12th division.

Also, Music Starz Studios student Louis Tyson of the Dallas ISD competed in the Student Affiliate Instrumental Performance Competition (grade 7-9 division) on June 10th. Tyson won 4th place and Honorable Mention at the competition.
