Woman forms new activity group for moms and kids

After arriving in North Texas this past New Year’s Eve, Shari Diniz-Junqueira decided almost immediately to start a parenting group. She knew it would be a great way for her and her 5-year-old daughter to meet some new friends, have some fun and learn more about their new home.

The Fabulous Families of the North Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex was originally created as an organization for area “transplants”, but it quickly became apparent to Shari (after receiving several email inquiries) that non-transplant parents also were interested in joining a fun and active group. As a result, the group is home to parents of kids mainly 10 years old and younger in many situations: transplants, locals, stay-at-home moms, homeschooling moms, work at home moms, student moms and moms who work full-time outside the home.

So far, the group has been extremely active – several fun and educational events have taken place and many more are on the way. Past and upcoming events include: stroller skating, making ice cream, a private event for just the group at the Dallas Museum of Art, a private event for just the group at the Dallas Zoo, a tour of the Carrollton Fire Department, a private tap and ballet class, making pizza, pottery painting, visiting an alpaca farm in Flower Mound, painting t-shirts, creating art and enjoying a tour at a local nursery.

Other possible upcoming activities are: taking a trolley ride, touring a local police station, taking a hike, making ice cream at a different shop and taking a train ride.

The group has an enforced attendance policy. Members must attend an event once every 30 days. They need to actively participate on the group’s message board. And they also are required to pay a $5 membership fee every 180 days, which goes towards the cost of maintaining the website.

Elder siblings are welcome to attend group events and activities, as are dads and other relatives, according to Shari.

Parents who are looking for a fun and active group are encouraged to join.  To apply for membership in the group, click here:
