This Memorial Day weekend, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office and Law Enforcement Officers from surrounding areas will participate in the Safe Lake Program.
The initiative will include stopping those operating any motor vehicles, such as automobiles, motorcycles, boats, jet skis, and/or four wheelers, if they are suspected to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
All area law enforcement agencies, including city police, the Department of Public Safety, the Corps of Engineers, and Parks & Wildlife will have officers out in force this weekend to ensure the safety of citizens.
The goal of the program is to identify those operating motor vehicles in an unsafe manner and prevent them from continuing.
There has already been a suspected fatality on Lake Lewisville this weekend near Hickory Creek after a man went missing when his boat capsized Friday night. Dive teams resumed their search for the man on Saturday morning.
The Safe Lake Program will also run on 4th of July weekend and Labor Day weekend.
