Property Tax Payment Deadline Approaches

The deadline for paying Denton County property taxes is fast approaching.

Generally, property owners have until January 31 to pay their property taxes without penalty or interest, but because this year the deadline falls on a Sunday, it is extended until February 1.

Payments can be made with cash, check, money order, or credit card.

Penalties for late payment begin February 2 at 6 percent. That increases by 1 percent each month until July, when attorney fees are added. Those fees are 15 to 20 percent of the tax bill; after July another 1 percent is added each month until payment is made.

Tax bills for each year are mailed in October. If you did not receive a bill, contact the tax office or access their property tax records online for a copy of the bill at http://taxweb.dentoncounty.com/tax/taxonline.faces.

New residents should file a Homestead Exemption with Denton County.

For more information, or to report changes in ownership or address, call the Appraisal District at 940-566-0904 or 972-434-2602.
