Area teen earns title of Miss Majorette of Texas

A southern Denton County teenager recently won the state baton-whirling title.

Byron Nelson High School senior Maggie Barnett earned the title of 2019 Miss Majorette of Texas following her performance at the Texas State Baton Twirling Championships, one of the top honors for the discipline in the state, according to a news release from Northwest ISD.

In addition to her recent state victory, Maggie was recently one of just 14 baton twirlers selected to represent the United States as goodwill ambassadors to Peru during the 69th International Festival of Springtime. During the two-week festival, which takes place from Sept. 18 to Oct. 1, Maggie will perform at philanthropic events, a senior living home, an orphanage, a parade around the city of Trujilo and more.

Maggie is an active member of the Byron Nelson band as one of its twirlers, and has received numerous accolades throughout her baton-twirling career for her abilities, according to the district.
