Denton man identified as victim in fatal wreck on Hwy 377

A Denton man has been identified as the victim in a fatal crash on Hwy 377 in south Denton. The other driver was arrested on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter.

Police responded to the 3300 block of Fort Worth Drive (Hwy 377) at 1:19 a.m. Thursday and found that the drivers of both vehicles were injured. Both were taken to the hospital by ambulance, according to a DPD news release.

Crash investigators determined that a gray pickup was driving southbound on Hwy 377 and it left the right side of the roadway, entering the ditch. The driver tried to correct his path, but lost control and slid sideways through the ditch, then back onto the road and crossed into the northbound lane, striking a silver car on the driver’s side.

The driver of the car died at the hospital, according to DPD. He has been identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 54-year-old Gene Housley of Denton.

The driver of the pickup was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter, according to DPD. He has been identified as 29-year-old Austin Shadle of Argyle.
