Jesse James Fit client Beth Williams, Managing Partner at Williams & Kunkel CPAs in Flower Mound, placed as a newcomer in the Masters Bikini Division at The National Physique Committee JTF Physique Championships held in Irving on September 26 , 2015.
Beth shed the image of what everyone imagines to be a ‘straight-laced’ accountant. Committing to the competition at age 60 was almost as challenging as starting her own business and developing it into a successful enterprise.
Did you find commonalities between your consulting and CPA practice and training for the competition?
“Setting goals, developing an action plan, managing timelines and accountability, measuring progress and maintaining self-discipline with our clients is very much a part of what we do at Williams & Kunkel,” said Beth. “I used this approach in preparing for a competition which is very different from my day job.”
What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
“The training is harder than anything I’ve ever done in my life: strict meal plans, measuring all my food, weight workouts and cardio every single day, no dinners out and absolutely no cheating – that’s hard to do for a whole year! My belief in God gave me the motivation and ability to confront the challenges along the way, and I could not have done it without my incredible great trainers, Rachel Braun and Jesse James Leyva. They know the science behind transforming and re-conditioning the human body with diet and exercise. Also, their coaching techniques really helped me stick with the program.”
Tell us about the lessons you learned through this experience.
“I learned so much about myself and hope to inspire others that you can achieve anything you want to in life. It’s so true that age is just a number. All it takes is a burning desire, discipline, a timeline and accountability to follow through. But it’s so worth it – I am stronger on the inside as well as the outside, and feel empowered to face the next big challenge!
