Foodie Friday: Fuzzy’s Taco Shop – A true community gathering place

As I’ve been attending weekly Thursday-morning breakfast meetings at the Fuzzy’s Taco Shop in Flower Mound – to discuss relevant community topics and issues – I’ve come to know owner, Will Tate, rather well and really felt the need to share his inspiring story and passion this week!

What I love about listening to Will’s life story is that he’s the true definition of an entrepreneur.  When he was 15 years old, he started his own lawn service and landscaping company which he later sold (in addition to two more lawn service companies he started).

After spending two years in college, Will decided to join the Air Force at the age of 19 and spent some time abroad serving as part of the fire fighter and pilot rescue team.  He has deployed all over the world in his dozen years in the United States Air Force.  Once he returned home and spent some time in the reserves, Will decided it was time to really take ownership of another business opportunity and came across a little-known taco franchise out of Fort Worth called Fuzzy’s Taco Shop.

And with lots of hard work and a philosophy to “serve the masses,” Will has created a truly welcoming and inviting atmosphere for residents here in Flower Mound. In the short time we were sitting and chatting with him, he could tell us the names, occupations and likes of several of the customers that walked through his door – and that’s a really cool thing for a local restaurant-owner to be able to do! He genuinely knows and cares about his customers and that shows in the way he does business. Watching him work the room was as if he had 40 best friends at the lunch rush we visited.

The Flower Mound Fuzzy’s is a true community gathering place. In addition to the Thursday-morning breakfasts, it’s also a great place to come with friends and watch a game while enjoying some drinks.

They also participate in some other wonderful community-outreach programs. This past week, they contributed 10% of their proceeds to Santa Cops. And every day, Will allows police officers to eat for free and firefighters to eat for 50% off.

Keeping Will’s incredible passion for his business and his customers in mind, we’d also like to share with you some of the delicious menu items you can order at Fuzzy’s!

We couldn’t go without starting out with some of their chips, queso and guacamole. The queso is creamy and rich and the guacamole tastes incredibly fresh and light. And I loved the addition of the jalapenos in the guac!

Kari ordered one of Fuzzy’s shredded chicken burritos filled to capacity with chicken, rice, beans, cheese, lettuce and (of course) Fuzzy’s famous garlic sauce!

And I (at the recommendation of Will) ordered the grilled shrimp quesadilla with the addition of some chorizo. I didn’t know that you could use the word “decadent” to describe a quesadilla, but that’s truly what this quesadilla is – DECADENT. And so good. I couldn’t only manage to eat half of it, but it was an incredible half of a quesadilla, I’ll tell you that much.

I really do love my weekly encounters with Will at his location here in Flower Mound. His passion overflows into every area of his life and his staff have really bought into his culture and his mindset. So whether Will is at the restaurant or not, you’re guaranteed to have the same experience.

We recommend you make the Fuzzy’s in Flower Mound the meeting spot for your next group get-together! Or you could even have them cater! They can do a taco bar, an enchilada bar, a burrito bar – whatever your heart desires.
