At the Feb. 10 meeting, the Highland Village City Council received information on upcoming capital improvement projects. Staff presented three projects: street improvements to Sellmeyer Road between Highland Village Road and Pen Jay Lane, a shared parking area near Unity Park and median improvements at the FM 2499 and Barton Creek intersection.
The improvements to Sellmeyer Road will straighten a sharp S curve in the roadway and were identified with the submission of plans to develop the adjacent area. The developer of Wichita Estates and the city will share the cost to improve the roadway. Staff recommended moving forward quickly with the construction in order to complete before AGL Constructors begins work on Highland Village Road.
The City is also considering partnering with the developer of Hidden Pines on parking lot expansion to accommodate the development and serve as overflow parking for Unity Park.
The third project, the median improvements at FM 2499 and Barton Creek, include constructing permanent median breaks in place of the existing traffic delineators. All three projects are currently not included in the city budget and would require budget amendments to allocate funds from other funding sources. Council will consider the budget amendments for each project at upcoming meetings.
