For the second year in a row, the Guyer Wildcats are state champions.
Guyer successfully defended its Class 4A Division I state football title Friday night with a 31-14 win over San Antonio Northside Brennan at AT&T Stadium.
The Brennan defense had allowed a combined total of just 51 points on the season heading into the game.
Guyer scored on a 14-yard pass to David Haynes from Jerrod Heard to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Brennan tied the game up in the second quarter, before Heard scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to take a 14-7 lead into the half.
Brad Grems kicked a 20-yard field goal late in the third quarter to put the Wildcats up by 10 points heading into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, Heard and DJ Breedlove each scored on runs of 28 yards and 33 yards respectively.
Heard finished the game with 146 yards rushing and two touchdowns and threw for another touchdown.
The Wildcats finished the season with a 14-2 overall record.
