Chad Plumlee’s passion for cycling inspired him to open his first bike shop in McKinney two and a half years ago.
In early November, Cadence Cyclery opened a second location in Highland Village, and Plumlee said he chose the community for a couple of reasons.
“I thought it was kind of underrepresented in terms of bike shops,” Plumlee said. “There are a few parameters you look for when you want to open a bike shop, such as a certain population, whether it is biking and mountain biking friendly and so forth. This area is one of the three or four best areas for road cycling.”
Cadence Cyclery features road bikes, tri bikes, mountain bikes, kids bikes and leisure bikes along with other products for cycling enthusiasts and beginners alike.
The Highland Village bike shop offers such brands as Giant, Cervelo, BH, Alchemy, Yeti, Focus, Scott, Pivot and more.
Plumlee has had a passion for cycling for as long as he can remember, racing motorcycles and training on bicycles from a young age.
“I was actually in the pharmaceutical industry for over 10 years when I started my first bicycle shop in McKinney,” Plumlee said. “Unfortunately, I was laid off, so I started working at the shop full time, and it really took off. Everything happens for a reason, and it has been great.”
Cadence Cyclery is located at 200 Marketplace Lane in Highland Village and business hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Mondays, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturdays, and Sundays noon to 5 p.m.
Plumlee said that whether a potential customer is an experienced cyclist or interested in purchasing their first bike, he or she will find the same warm and welcoming experience at Cadence Cyclery under General Manager, Damon William.
“We try to bring an old school style of customer service,” Plumlee said. “We understand that people can buy things online, so how we kind of differentiate ourselves is through the attention to detail, the quality, and the employees’ knowledge of the products.
“A customer can come in and get that expert opinion to help them make a decision on a bike. We try to take the same amount of time and effort with each customer so that they will keep coming back.”
