Ways to give back this holiday season

For more than 40 years, Lewisville-based Christian Community Action (CCA) has served those in need, and your help is needed for them to continue to achieve their goals.

Each year, CCA employees and volunteers– along with support from local families, churches, and businesses– make a profound difference in the lives of more than 10,000 individuals. In 2012, CCA provided toys for 1,811 children, Christmas gifts for 91 seniors and holiday food for 1,200 families. The non-profit is expecting to serve at least that many families this year.

CCA serves more than 10,000 individuals per year throughout Denton and surrounding counties. Its service area includes eight independent school districts: Argyle; Lewisville; Lake Dallas; Coppell; Little Elm; Frisco; Northwest; and Carrollton-Farmers Branch. School programs include a Back to School clothing drive and a Kids Eat Free summer lunch program. Low-cost, high-quality childcare in Lewisville and The Colony is provided by its partnership with the First United Methodist Church.

A financial gift, donation of needed items or volunteer time will help make the holidays brighter for those who are less fortunate.

Opportunities to help include: collecting holiday food items to donate; supporting the Christmas Toy Store which provides parents the opportunity to select Christmas toys for their children; coordinate a toy drive by fulfilling gift ideas from a CCA Giving Tree located at a local church or business; and make a monetary donation to CCA either by sending a check listing a specific holiday program designation or online at www.ccahelps.org.

In addition, people can Adopt a Senior for Christmas by purchasing gifts from a personal wish list, then return the wrapped gifts with the senior’s name on the tag to CCA by Monday, Dec. 2. The senior Christmas party will be held Friday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 907 W. Main St. in Lewisville.

Volunteer opportunities include: sorting and organizing Holiday food items; staff the CCA Christmas Toy Store; and staffing the numerous local Giving Tree locations.
