Wildcats make quick work of Amarillo on the way to state quarterfinals

The Guyer football team pounded Amarillo 63-21 Saturday afternoon to advance to the state quarterfinals.

Jerrod Heard led the way offensively for the Wildcats, combining for 251 all purpose yards and three touchdowns.

DJ Breedlove rushed for two touchdowns in the game, and David Haynes and Anthony Taylor also scored on touchdown runs.

Breedlove also had 76 yards receiving and two touchdowns, and Tripp Reed and Eric Ramon caught touchdown passes for the Wildcats.

The Guyer defense came up with two fumble recoveries in the game, and the Wildcats led 42-0 at halftime and 56-0 before Amarillo scored its first touchdown late in the third quarter.

Guyer (11-2) will play Birdville (11-2) at  2 p.m. Saturday at Northwest ISD Stadium.
