Arrest made in Flower Mound murder case

The suspect in the New Year’s Day shooting of a Justin man in Flower Mound was apprehended by Lewisville police over the weekend.

Anthony Huynh, 40, of Lewisville was arrested Saturday night after allegedly shooting a man in the parking lot of the Suburban Extended Stay hotel at 1920 Lakepointe Drive. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and the unlawful use of a weapon as a felon. Police said that Huynh had been staying at the hotel for the past four months.

Flower Mound police determined that Huynh’s vehicle matched the description of the suspect vehicle in the Jan. 1 shooting and charged Hunyh with the murder of Lamont White, 54, of Justin.

Upon questioning by police, Huynh first denied involvement but later admitted to both the Lewisville shooting and the Flower Mound murder.

In the Flower Mound case, Lamont White was shot multiple times while sitting in his car in the parking lot of the Donut Plaza at FM 3040 and Garden Ridge on the evening of Jan. 1.  White worked at a Target store in Lewisville and was heading home to Justin when the crime occurred.

Huynh admitted to police that he observed White sitting in his vehicle in the Target parking lot and thought he was acting suspiciously, according to a probable cause affidavit.

He said he followed White on FM 3040 into Flower Mound and used his flashlight’s strobe feature to get him to pull over into the empty shopping center parking lot.

Huynh stated that he pulled up next to White’s vehicle in his blind spot and shot him multiple times as White was about to step out of his car.

Huynh said that he then drove back to his hotel and disposed of his spent 9mm bullet casings.  He explained that he did not call police because of his criminal record.

Police do not believe that Huynh knew White.

Huynh was booked into the Denton County Jail and his bond was set at $1.5 million dollars.
