Mini-golf tourney to raise money for scholarships

Miniature it may be, but there’s nothing small about the impact an upcoming golf tournament will have on the availability of scholarship resources for students attending the Denton County campuses of North Central Texas College.

The 10th annual Miniature Golf Tournament, sponsored by the NCTC Denton County Foundation, is set for Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Zone Action Park in Lewisville.

Individual entrants will be assigned to a four-player team, and groups or businesses may enter teams.

Registration will begin at 5 p.m., which is also when a silent auction will open. The golf tournament will begin at 5:35 p.m. with a dinner and award ceremony to follow.

Entry fees are $20 for individual adults, $10 for students and $5 for children under 10 years old. NCTC employees can enter for $15, while NCTC students can join the tournament for only $5.

NCTC is also challenging its employees to see which department can have the highest percentage of players. The winning department will receive a $250 scholarship to award to an NCTC student of their choice.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the players posting the best 18-hole scores.  In addition, there will be prizes on various designated holes for a hole-in-one, longest putt and more.

“The NCTC Foundation Miniature Golf Tournament is a great event to raise scholarship money for students in Denton County,” said Roy Culberson, Dean of the NCTC Corinth campus. “The money raised assists students in continuing on their educational path here at NCTC. Also, this event brings in community members to work aside NCTC staff in making college more accessible to students.”

Over the past nine years, through the generous contributions of corporate and individual sponsors, the tournament has raised over $100,000 for student scholarships, according to NCTC Vice-President of Institutional Advancement Debbie Sharp.

“The NCTC Denton County Foundation is excited about hosting our 10th Annual Miniature Golf Tournament,” said Sharp. “We appreciate all the support of this event and students throughout the years.”

This year’s major sponsors include Edward Jones, Waste Management, Northstar Bank of Texas, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital and Wood, Thacker & Weatherly, P.C. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for businesses and individuals.
