Aerial spraying delayed due to wind

The aerial mosquito spraying operation in Denton County scheduled to begin Thursday has been delayed until Friday night due to windy conditions. Spraying is now scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Health officials said midday Thursday that the decision to postpone the operation is based on the expected wind speed during the spraying times. For maximum effectiveness and accuracy, winds need to remain below 10 mph and consistent.

Winds for this evening are expected to gust above 20 mph and remain above the threshold for much of the scheduled spraying time.

The gusty northerly winds are associated with Tropical Storm Issac.
