Boys that play together, stay together

In the current world of select and expensive youth sports, the Flower Mound Fast Break 15U boys basketball team is a little different than most tournament teams.

They are all local homegrown players with the majority of the team having been together for 10 years, starting in kindergarten.

They are a “backyard” team competing against tournament teams made up of players from all over. There are no tryouts. There are no fees. There are no paid coaches. Playing time is not an issue.

“The requirement for this team has not changed over the 10 years they have been together…good kids, good parents and a passion for basketball…in that order,” said head coach Larry Goin.

Goin said that the team’s mission has stayed the same: Learn the fundamentals, play as a team, learn how to compete and prepare the boys for school ball while building lifelong friendships. It’s not about winning.

All nine players currently play high school basketball at Flower Mound or Marcus.

“Most importantly they are all great boys. They are hardworking, unselfish and play well together. I am truly blessed to be part of this unique team” said Goin.

The Flower Mound Fast Break went 5-0 and brought home the championship title at the PrimeTime SDS Fund Classic on July 1 in Austin.

“What these boys accomplished in Austin was a result of their hard work and teamwork. I’m so happy for them,” said Goin.
