Dr. Jamie Wilson, deputy superintendent for Denton Independent School District, has been officially named the district’s superintendent.
Dr. Wilson was named as the lone finalist in May. The board voted unanimously for Dr. Wilson Tuesday. He is replacing Dr. Ray Braswell, who is retiring at the end of June after 34 years with the district.
Dr. Wilson has been with Denton ISD for the past seven years. He was named assistant superintendent for academic programs in 2005 and was promoted to deputy superintendent in 2007.
Dr. Wilson is taking over the helm of a district that has almost doubled in student population since 2000.
Previously, Dr. Wilson served in various educational leadership positions for the Keller and Aubrey school districts.
He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of North Texas and recently completed his doctorate of education administration from UNT where he was awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Student in Educational Administration Award.
