Riding in on a wave of economic development and civility issues, Flower Mound sitting councilman Tom Hayden, along with Bryan Webb and Steve Dixon, swept the “NFL” trio of Mayor Melissa Northern, Al Filidoro and Steve Lyda in Saturday’s Municipal Election.
Hayden, who has been on the town council since 2009, garnered 3,701 votes (64.54 percent) to defeat Northern (1,970 votes, 34.35 percent) and resident Al Cloud (63 votes, 1.10 percent).
Bryan Webb unseated Filidoro in Place 2 on town council with 3,592 votes, representing 63.65 percent, to Filidoro’s 2,051 votes, 36.35 percent.
Steve Dixon, a former town council member who did not run for re-election in 2011, topped Lyda and HOA president Jay Cannon in Place 4. Dixon earned 3,471 votes (61.28 percent), while Lyda had 1,988 votes (35.10 percent). Cannon had 205 votes (3.62 percent).
Mayor-elect Hayden said that he is excited to have the opportunity to bring Flower Mound’s leaders together and plan for the future.
“I appreciate the good things that Melissa (Northern), Steve (Lyda) and Al (Filidoro) did for the town,” said Hayden.
“The first thing I’ve got to do as Mayor is get everybody on council together and as a group come up with a long term objective for our town,” said Hayden.
“The objective is, ‘where is the town going to be in five, ten years?’ It’s not a Tom Hayden vision; it is going to be five members of council. It’s going to be a vision of the council.
“I’m excited as we come out of this economic recession that we make sure that the Town of Flower Mound is poised to take advantage of it. We need to work towards diversifying our tax base and continue to make this a place where people want to come and live.”
“I am very thankful for the trust the people of Flower Mound have put in me and look forward to the many opportunities ahead,” added Dixon.
The next order of business is filling Hayden’s Place 5 council seat, which will begin with the town posting public notices to seek candidates that the council will interview for consideration to appoint.
