SIM Auxiliary Inc., the nonprofit group supporting Flower Mound’s Seniors in Motion program, raised more than $4,000 at its Casino Night fund-raiser in March, presented by FirstChoice Power and hosted by Evergreen at Vista Ridge Senior Living.
“The money raised will go to help furnish the Shirley Voirin Social Senior Center scheduled to open in July next to Town Hall,” said Mary Kay Walker, president of SIM Auxiliary. In 12 months of fundraising, SIMA has raised more than $14,000 through events and membership dues.
“This money is crucial to making the senior center as nice as it can be, in these tough economic times,” Walker continued. “The Seniors in Motion program, which is celebrating its sixth anniversary, is a lifeline for so many area seniors.”
The Casino Night was SIMA’s second major fundraiser, after the IHOP at the Sock Hop fund-raiser last November at Pinewood Hills senior living community, which was attended by more than 100 people and raised more than $5,000 after expenses.
“It’s worth noting that much of the donations have come from the seniors themselves, as well as the many community-oriented businesses we’re so lucky to have here in the Flower Mound-Lewisville area,” Walker said.
The Casino Night was held at Evergreen at Vista Ridge on Saturday evening, March 26. A capacity crowd of 85 guests enjoyed drinks and hors d’ouevres from Cotton Patch Café, Morrison Food Services at Flower Mound Hospital, Starbucks and Ben E. Keith; and casino games sponsored by Evergreen at Vista Ridge, Home Instead Senior Care, Law Office of Tricia Martin, Mature Texans Magazine, Mayday Pest Control, Fort Worth Community Credit Union, Swirl Bakery, Vistacare Hospice, and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Flower Mound. There was even an Elvis impersonator sponsored by Total Patient Care Home Health.
Participants won a chance at prizes and bid in a silent auction for items donated by American Physician House Calls, Autumn Leaves of Flower Mound, Belk, Chicks Dig It … and Guys Do Too!, Coldwater Creek the Spa, Cross Timbers Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, El Chico Café, Elite Hair & Spa, Fish City Grill, Frisco Roughriders, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, Hilton Garden Inn, Home Helpers, In Bloom Flowers, JM4Energy, Karen Gattis, Kwik Kar Automotive, Linda Wright, Lonestar Gourmet Popcorn, Mary Hayden, Massage Envy, McAlister’s Deli, Metroport Meals on Wheels, PointBank, Hon.
