Denton County GOP sponsors scholarship contest

Now in its sixth year, a $500 scholarship will be given to an outstanding, conservative young Texan by the Denton County Republican Party.

Previous recipients have included students attending the University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, Dallas Baptist University, North Central Texas College, and Rice University.

The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student meeting the following requirements:

– Denton County resident;
– Either an entering Fall 2011 freshman or current student at a Texas institution of higher education;
– Fulltime student taking 12 or more semester hours if in college;
– If eligible, must be a registered voter, or if not of voting age, must show active GOP involvement.

“Our goal is to recognize a hard working, ambitious, exemplary young person with this scholarship,” said GOP Party chairman Dianne Edmondson, “a young person who shares our conservative values and who is an asset to the community and to Denton County.”

Scholarship applications and additional information are available online at the Denton GOP website at www.dentongop.org.

All applications must be received by May 2, 2011, and must be accompanied by a current transcript copy (or admission letter if entering freshman), resume and at least one letter of recommendation from a known Republican.

Scholarship Award recipients will be announced at the July 21, 2011 Denton County Republican Executive Committee meeting.
