District recognizes fall sports Varsity Scholar Athlete honorees

The Denton Independent School District is recognizing 91 students from its three high schools as part of a new program that honors student athletes for their academic success.

Beginning this school year, the district is acknowledging the commitment to excellence its varsity athletes display with the Denton ISD UIL Varsity Scholar Athlete Award.

All student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 through the first semester of the current academic year, represent Denton ISD in a positive light and have been approved as a selection by their varsity head coach.

The first scholar athletes were recognized at the Board of Trustees meeting on March 9 and they will be honored at their respective high schools. The district will honor the rest of its student-athletes this spring.

The fall’s honorees from Guyer High School includes:

Football – Mason Cannon, Drew Johnson, Kamrhan Jones, Austin Otto, Blazer Powell and J.W. Walsh

Volleyball – Darcy Birden, Schuyler Dale, Kaylee Fifer, Sarah Finney, Joanna Huckabee, Jasmin Johnson, Alyssa Keim, Ashley McEntire, Kailey McEntire, Nia Noble, Allyse Rodriguez; Sarah Simpson and Bailey Wentz

Cross Country – Alya Ayers, Holly Beard, Samuel Denton, Blythe Fentress, Davad Guerra, Samantha Leyba, Juan Martinez, Justin Morales, Zachary Ramirez, Dalton Richey, Danielle Stauther and Omar Yanez

Athletic Trainers – Seth Bonner, Keitra Brewer, Kayleigh Crow, Hannah Ellis, Jacob Jones, Duncan Mayer and Andrea McCurdy
