Eagles season comes to an end after loss in regional semifinal

The Argyle football team’s season came to an end on Friday night, losing 42-21 to perennial powerhouse Gilmer in the Class 3A Division II regional semifinal.

Argyle struck first in the game, scoring in the first minute of play on a 6-yard run from Nick Ralston to take a 7-0 lead.

Gilmer scored 21 unanswered points, and then took a 27-7 lead, but missed the PAT early in the third quarter.

The Eagles cut the deficit to 13 late in the third quarter on a 5-yard run from Ian Sadler.

Gilmer led 27-14 heading into the fourth.

Tacking on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, Gilmer put the game out of reach, even with a Sadler 3-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the game.

Argyle finished the season with an 11-2 overall record, district championship and 4-0 district mark.
