A student from Northwest ISD will have the opportunity to participate in a program that gives students access to premier resources needed to pursue success in math and science.
Third-grader Kabir Gupta of Daniel Elementary School in Northlake got the opportunity to take the National Math Stars program entry exam after he scored highly on a MAP assessment.
According to a report from Northwest ISD, Gupta passed the exam, which featured problems different than most math tests.
“It was very challenging,” Gupta said to Northwest High School reporter Chloe Danicki. “It wasn’t math that I do at school, it was more puzzles than math.”
National Math Star gives “1-in-1,000” math students like Gupta access to resources that help them push the limits of innovation and progress.
“The next generation of innovators will come from the students who show extraordinary mathematical talent today,” said the program. “Yet far too many of those students never receive the support they need to reach their potential.”
During the 10-year program, Gupta will attend advanced math classes, STEM summer programs, enrichment classes and competitions, get weekly mentoring and community support.
According to NISD, he plans to begin with Beast Academy before moving on to Khan Academy as part of his self-paced learning path.
Gupta’s mother told NISD said his success stems from his internal drive, saying he takes full ownership of his goals through self-discipline and motivation.
“I’m really proud of him,” said Mansi Singhal. “What got him here is definitely himself because of all the discipline that he inherits in his life, on his own. Nothing that we’ve pushed him for.”
