With politics on the minds of many people these days it’s important to know the leaders of the major parties because they do the organizing and setting of policy goals for their members. Given that Denton County has been in Republican hands for decades, most of the news coverage goes to the GOP. However, no one should get the impression that the Denton Democrat Party is in retreat. Headquartered at 522 S. Edmonds, suite: 200 in Lewisville, the Party holds regular meetings with their members, distributes info, holds fundraisers and supports candidates for numerous positions throughout the county. Some policy positions from their website include:
“Texas Democrats believe government exists to achieve together what we cannot achieve as individuals; and government must serve all people. A representative democracy is only truly representative if every single citizen is guaranteed the inalienable right to vote in fair and open elections. Texas Democrats believe in equal opportunities and freedom for all human beings no matter a person’s race, disability, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic or immigration status. Texas Democrats believe in a fair criminal justice system serving all people; robust public and higher education opportunities are critical for our future; and our economy must benefit all Texans. Texas Democrats believe healthcare is a right; women’s rights are human rights; we owe future generations a clean and healthy planet; and a strong social safety net creates opportunity for all Americans.”
I asked Denton Democrat Party Chair Dr. Anjelita Cadena to come over for an interview to bring residents up to speed on what’s happening in the Party. The follow is a short bio Dr. Cadena sent:
“Dr. Anjelita (Angie) Cadena is an Assistant Professor at the University of North Texas. Dr. Cadena has over 30 years of experience in both the corporate environment and small business, including running her own Real Estate Brokerage firm. Her vast experience in advocacy, volunteerism, and leadership in both partisan and non-partisan organizations helped elect her to lead the Denton County Democratic Party as Chair in 2018. As a first generation college graduate, Angie is an advocate for education as a means to advance equality, political participation, and inclusion.”
