Argyle Middle School evacuated over smell of gas

Argyle Middle School was evacuated for a short time Monday morning because of the smell of gas, but it was quickly determined the school was safe.

School and emergency officials learned that Atmos had made a planned release of gas — something done to release pressure — from an Atmos site near Argyle Middle School, 6601 Canyon Falls Drive.

“We didn’t know this though, so we evacuated AMS until we could verify where the gas was coming from,” said Argyle ISD Police Chief Paul Cairney.

The Argyle Fire District contacted Atmos, and the gas company agreed to let them know — in advance — whenever they have similar gas releases in the future, Cairney said.
