Both the Argyle and Guyer football teams will compete in state championship games after winning their respective playoff games on Saturday.
Guyer will defend its state title after a thrilling comeback 22-16 win over Highland Park at Allen Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats were down 10-0 at the half, but came alive in the fourth quarter.
Guyer junior running back Anthony Taylor got things started with a 24-yard scamper to the endzone and QB Jerrod Heard added a 25-yard rushing touchdown to take the Wildcats’ first lead in the game with just over four minutes to go.
After a Highland Park score, Heard answered with a long drive downfield capped with another rushing touchdown with 55 seconds remaining to put it away for Guyer.
Guyer (13-2) will face San Antonio Brennan (15-0) for the 4A Division I title at 8 p.m. Friday at AT&T stadium in Arlington.
Argyle is gunning for its first state football title after rolling to a 38-14 victory over Graham Saturday night at Northwest ISD Stadium in Justin.
The Eagles jumped on Graham early in the game, scoring 21 first half points on a 10-yard run from Nick Ralston, a 35-yard interception return from Hunter Treadwell and a 2-yard run from Conner Wilson.
Ralston scored on runs of 2-yards and 35-yards respectively in the second half to put the Eagles up 35-0, finishing the game with 147 yards rushing.
Cole Hedlund kicked a 36-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
Argyle’s defense stifled Graham, racking up five interceptions on the night.
The Eagles (15-0) will play Fairfield (15-0) for the Division II 3A State Championship on Friday at 4 p.m. at AT&T Stadium.
