Whole Foods construction begins

A ceremonial groundbreaking was held on November 13 for a 38,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market at The Shops at Highland Village.

Expected to open late summer 2014, Whole Foods is the most recent tenant to sign on in the upscale shopping center, which also recently opened Decor To Your Door, Lucy Voss and Luke’s Locker.

“Highland Village is a fast-growing community that cares about the environment and its residents,” said Mark Dixon, Southwest Regional Vice President of Whole Foods Market. “Opening a store here is a perfect match for us.”

The Shops at Highland Village is more than 90 percent occupied, with several new businesses scheduled to open soon, including Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, Pig Tails & Crewcuts, and Capital One Bank.

“The groundbreaking of Whole Foods as a new retailer and corporate resident in Highland Village has fulfilled a vision and goal for our economic development,” said Mayor Pat Davis. “We know the store will draw shoppers from the region as well as open the door for complementary retailers.”

Alberta Development Partners purchased the shopping center in July 2012 and has been working on adding tenants and increasing traffic to the mall.

The Shops at Highland Village includes 370,000 square feet of retail space and 40,000 square feet of office space on the 43-acre site at the northwest corner of FM 2499 and FM 407.
