I am writing in support of the Kroger Signature store expansion as well as the fuel center. This Project has many positives and I understand the following points are true and accurate:
· This request is not a Master Plan Change
· The application meets SMARTGrowth and passed the town’s SMARTGrowth analysis
· Traffic or public safety has not been questioned by any Professional Engineer or Accredited Traffic Management Expert
· The number of parking spaces with the removal of the spaces needed for the fuel center meets the town’s parking standards
· The applicant will install deceleration lanes at the two entrances off FM1171
· Kroger will spend over $14 million dollars to enhance their store if this is approved
· Kroger will increase their store by 20,000 square feet
· Kroger will meet or exceed the town’s construction standards by using brick, stone and a metal roof to give the store more of a rural or country look
· Kroger plans to offer discounted fuel to Flower Mound residents and even more fuel savings to Kroger Reward Program participants which may lower customer’s fuel cost by $1 per gallon
· Kroger will be adding more landscaping
· This project will help economic development in Flower Mound by adding 75-80 new local jobs
· Kroger will be upgrading their interior with six new express checkout lanes
· The project will bring expanded services including a larger produce section, more fresh cut fruit, expanded natural foods section, new tortillaria and enhanced bakery, expanded deli, new cheese/olive bar, expanded sushi area, Starbucks, expanded meat/seafood area, enhanced wine department, and a more efficient pharmacy with drive-up window
This project will beautify one of the town’s major intersections and should help support the other businesses in the area.
I ask for the town council’s vote to approve Kroger’s application for the SUP.
