Scouts host guest from across the pond

As part of their summer activity program, Pack 802 Lantana Webelos 1 Cub Scouts, led by Michael Rieder of Lantana, organized an International Scout Activity Event and hosted a Scout from England on July 23rd.

Special guest was Hamish Lehan, 14, from East Grinstead, West Sussex in England, who gave a talk about Lord Baden Powell – founder of the World Scout Movement – and the history of scouting. A lively question and answer session followed, including a comparison of British and American uniforms and a popular sampling of food and drink from England.

“This counts towards the pack’s International Activities Badge and was a fun and interesting way to learn about how scouting started and what it’s like to be a scout in England,” said Rieder.

The event was sponsored by The British Emporium in Grapevine.

Hamish is a guest of the Bailey family in Argyle, and this is his first trip to America.

Members of Lantana Cub Scouts Pack 802 are starting their recruitment drive this month.

Leaders and volunteers from Pack 802 will be on hand at their information booths at ‘Meet The Teacher Night’ events on Thursday, August 19th, at Blanton Elementary School from 4.30pm-6pm and on the same day at E.P. Rayzor Elementary School from 6.30pm-8pm.

Parents are invited to stop by to find out about all that Pack 802 offers to boys from 1st to 5th grade. Along with enrolment information, there will also be details of the pack’s upcoming events, such as camping, fishing, Rocket Academy and Pinewood Derby.

Pack 802’s Scoutmaster is Daren Linnabary, a resident of Lantana.
