Fairway Drive, AKA the Dam Road, might reopen soon but officials are not ready to say it will definitely be at the end of this month.

The road, which goes over Grapevine Dam between Flower Mound and Grapevine, was shut down in August 2018 due to potentially hazardous conditions on the road observed during a routine inspection after heavy rainfall, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth district. It was originally expected to be repaired and re-opened by the end of 2018, but delays forced the Corps to make the closure indefinite.

Now, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel for the many drivers who use it as an alternative to the busy FM 2499 thoroughfare. Clay Church, public affairs specialist for the USACE Fort Worth, said progress is being made but a lot of things have to be completed before the road can be reopened.

“The goal is to reopen the road as soon as possible, some construction items have yet to be completed,” Church said. “We’re hoping to have it reopened by the end of this month, but we’re reluctant to put an exact date on it.”

The road was originally closed because of potentially hazardous conditions on the road observed during a routine inspection after heavy rainfall, and repairs were also needed on the downstream embankment slope, which directly impacted a segment of guardrail and road.
