Around Argyle — January 2019

Argyle Mayor Donald Moser

Happy New Year! The calendar has turned, the ball has dropped and now it is time for those New Year’s resolutions. My resolution is to not sit back and relax as we have a lot planned for 2019. At the top of our list is:

Create a Strategic Plan for the Town which will help us determine the direction we need to go as well as aid with the following: Assist the EDC with Development Goals; Develop financial strategies; Identify the type of development that is right for Argyle; Provide a guide to our Town staff to develop an action plan for the town

A plan for reconstruction of Crawford Road. This project has been in the works for quite some time and we are almost there.

Complete the bid and award process, and start resurfacing, reconstruction and repairs to roads within the Town. This is the largest and most comprehensive road improvement plan in our town’s history, which will literally affect every road in our town.

Revise the town’s tree ordinance to help protect our trees, and work towards Scenic City Certification and Tree City USA designation.

Continue to review and improve the transparency of the town’s actions and ethics.

The 2019 General Election is just around the corner.  This year the places up for election are Mayor, Councilmember Place 2 and Councilmember Place 4. Election Day is on May 4th so keep this in mind and vote early or on Election Day.

Just as a reminder, I will be at Town Hall on the first Saturday of every month at 9 a.m. for “Mornings with the Mayor.” This is a time for citizens to get to know me as well as talk about any issues that may be on your mind. I always try to have a topic in mind for the day but that is not set in stone. Please come out and join me for some inspiring conversation, coffee and donuts.

As always, we are committed to serving the citizens of Argyle with the utmost Integrity and Transparency. My philosophy is to serve for the Common Good with a Common Goal with Common Sense.

Seniors Update

Congratulations to Margit and Jerry Wallace! What a wonderful time when two of our seniors were united in marriage on December 2, 2018 at The First United Methodist Church in Seagoville, Texas. We wish them much happiness as they share their lives together!

The seniors last month enjoyed their Christmas Luncheon of ham, turkey and all the trimmings. Our thanks to The Argyle Police Department and all who brought food to share.

We are happy to announce that we have hired someone to help in preparing food and cleaning up after our luncheons.

The seniors meet every week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. to exercise and play games.

Our next luncheon will be on Friday, March 16 at 12 noon and everyone is asked to bring a side dish to share or donate $4 that will go into the seniors fund. The Denton Senior Singers will be performing for us again so everyone double up on the dish you bring.

We’re happy to hear our dear friend John Bellinghausen is finished with chemo treatments and is cancer free!

Our deepest sympathy to Thomas Smith on the loss of his wife (Joan).
