Ethan Nguyen has a passion for music.
The Guyer High School junior is a member of the school’s orchestra and band, and has been selected to the All-State Orchestra for the last three years in a row.
Nguyen, 17, said that being a member of the school’s musical ensembles is special for him to explore and cultivate his great passion, while also interacting with his friends.
“I enjoy playing and making music with all my friends in orchestra and band and all the competitions and events we do every year,” Nguyen said. “It’s cool to learn about and make music, as well as practice my instrument.”
The Double Oak teen plays the double bass in both band and orchestra. While Nguyen said he enjoys both, he does have a favorite.
“I like orchestra more than band, mostly because I have been a part of orchestra a lot longer, but also the music in there is a bit more enjoyable than the band music,” Nguyen said. “I also enjoy the sounds of strings more than the sounds of percussion and winds.”
In addition to his musical ventures, he also plans to join the UIL Computer Science team his senior year at GHS, which is something that he would also like to pursue as a possible career option.
“I plan on becoming something in the field of computer science,” Nguyen said. “I’m not entirely sure, but an idea of what I might become is a software engineer. I really enjoy computers and I spend a lot of my time on mine as well. There are many things that have changed because of technology– such as communications through personal phones and the entertainment industry like gaming– and I enjoy continuously being a part of the growth.”
Nguyen carries a 4.5 grade point average at Guyer High School and is ranked 49th in his class of 617 students.
