Lantana resident Jonathan Balmos announced Saturday that he is suspending his campaign for the Denton ISD Board of Trustees and endorsing one of his rivals.
Balmos, who works in the security field and was running on a platform for safer schools, is among three candidates challenging incumbent Dr. Jeanetta Smith of Denton in Place 2.
He is now backing David Shuck, a south Denton resident who formerly served as mayor of Providence Village.
“After much thought and prayer, I have decided to suspend my campaign for Place 2 on the DISD Board of Trustees. I remain passionate about improving security at our schools, and did not make this decision lightly. That said, I have realized that my skill set is better suited to make an impact on school security by advising our school design firms,” said Balmos in a prepared statement.
“I am so very grateful for the support my campaign received from our community. I hope each of you will make your voice heard during early voting or on Election Day. Even if we disagree on certain matters, I strongly believe that the best way to effect change is at the ballot box.
“On May 5, I will be voting for David Shuck for Place 2. I have spoken to David in great detail about school security, and plan to work closely with him to make our schools safe again. Thank you again for your support. I remain convinced that, together, we can still make DISD the safest school district in the country.
