The Canyon Falls neighborhood is celebrating the grand opening of its new trail system with a Spring Break filled with family-friendly activities.
The neighborhood, located northwest of the FM 1171 intersection with Hwy 377, will have a ribbon cutting for the trail system opening at 5 p.m. on Friday. The trails span more than seven miles and are part of more than 200 acres of parks, trails, recreation centers and natural open space in the community, according to a news release. It has new trailhead markers and benches at the Canyon Falls Club, the Pooch Park and other major amenities.
A concert on the lawn will follow the ribbon cutting. From 5:30-7:30 p.m., Kindred South Band will perform and food will be available from Ruthie’s and Easy Sliders food trucks.
From March 10-16, Canyon Falls will be running two contests for families to have fun and possibly win prizes. There’s a scavenger hunt, for which families can pick up a sheet at Canyon Falls Club. Once completed, take a photo of the sheet, post it to Facebook, tag Canyon Falls and Camp Fire Lone Star and use the #CFExplorers hashtag. There will be a drawing for prizes for those who complete, post and tag.
The other drawing is for a Land Art contest in which families work together to use rocks, sticks, leaves, etc. to create art along the trail. Take a photo of the art, post it to Facebook, tag Canyon Falls and Camp Fire Lone Star and use the #CFExplorers hashtag. There will be a drawing for prizes for those who complete, post and tag.
Camp Fire’s Spring Break Camp runs from March 12-16 and will include frisbee tag, making bird feeders and nature rubbings, among other activities. It’s open to Canyon Falls residents and the public, but children must be registered and paid up. The camp will end with a celebration for campers and their families with yard games — including Giant Jenga, Water balloon slingshots and Giant Kerplunk — hot dogs and a s’mores station.
Canyon Falls Club will also put on an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 17, open to residents and guests.
