Foodie Friday: Calling All Asian Food Lovers

Sometimes we visit a new restaurant after its been open for a few months and I kick myself for not having visited it sooner. This week I had one of those experiences as we followed the advice of several Foodies and headed to Flower Mound’s new China Island Asian Grill located in the Highlands of Flower Mound shopping center on the corner of FM 2499 and FM 407.

China Island Asian Grill opened in August and has been wowing customers with their delicious Asian-style dishes ever since. We’ve seen numerous posts on Facebook about how delicious all of their food is, and even with those high expectations, the food honestly exceeded what we had in mind!

The restaurant is truly a family business with owner, Harry Peng, running the shop alongside some of his children, siblings and nieces and nephews. We had the chance to meet his daughter and talk to both Harry and her about their experience owning running a restaurant here in Flower Mound.

Both of them expressed how grateful they’ve been for the welcome they’ve received from local residents, especially considering most of their business has come from word of mouth. So, kudos to you Foodies for spreading the good word and helping this family and their business off to a great start here in Flower Mound!

Harry has years of experience in the restaurant industry and brings that passion and knowledge to owning his own restaurant. And he and his staff have created a menu with something that will appeal to just about everyone – no matter which kind of Asian-style food you prefer.

And boy did they treat us to an incredible meal full of some of their most popular dishes.

We started out with bowls of their Hot & Sour and Egg Drop Soups. Both delicious and the perfect start to our meal.

They then brought us some of their most popular appetizers to sample: Crab Rangoons, Pork Dumplings and Chicken Lettuce Wraps. I’m a big fan of all of these appetizers, and China Island’s versions were delicious!

Then they brought us a bunch of different entrees to sample – our whole table was full of incredible dishes to try!

If you like Thai food, you’ll love China Island’s Phad Thai. We had ours with steak and both the meat and the noodles had incredible flavor.

We also tried their General Tsao’s Chicken which is breaded dark meat chicken served in a spicy garlic sauce. It almost tastes like you’re eating boneless ribs and the sauce has a little bit of heat to it, but not too much.

If you like sweeter Asian dishes, you’ll love either their Mandarin Pecan Chicken or their Sesame Chicken.

And if you’re a fan of seafood dishes, their Ginger Shrimp is incredible. It’s made with jumbo shrimp (I mean… JUMBO) stir-fried in a spicy ginger chili sauce.

Needless to say, we really enjoyed our meal at China Island Asian Grill. And can’t wait for our next meal there.

Now, just a couple things to keep in mind about this place. The physical location isn’t huge – they only have about 10 tables, so plan accordingly if you want to dine in the restaurant. China Island does also offer carry-out and delivery services. They deliver within a 7-mile radius (including to Lantana). However, you should plan ahead if you want delivery as sometimes the wait can be close to an hour due to their popularity. And for take-out orders, you should plan on somewhere around 15-25 minutes.

We hope you all try out this amazing new restaurant soon if you haven’t already!

*China Island Asian Grill is located at 6101 Long Prairie Rd #740, Flower Mound TX 75028.
