5K and festival benefits Rotary charities

fm-rotary-neon-nightThe Flower Mound Rotary Club along with presenting sponsor, CornerStone Staffing, are hosting the 4th Annual Rotary Fest at Heritage Park in Flower Mound on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 4 to 9 p.m.

“It’ a great family and community event,” said Harold Shepard, 2016 event chair.  “Last year, 815 people ran and we guesstimate some 2,500 people attended the various activities. This year we hope to top 1,000 runners with 3,000 people attending.”

An afternoon Washer Tournament and evening Neon Night 5K Run/Walk are the highlighted events, in addition to food trucks, cold beer and live music by “Petty Theft.”

The neighborhood park features a pavilion, picnic tables, multi-use trails and a playground. The Fest Kid’s Zone will include Fort Wildflower, face painting, balloon art and a trackless train.

The 4th annual Flower Mound Rotary Washer Tournament rules-of-play are available at: www.fmrotaryfest.com. The tournament is a double’s-format tournament, with a fee of $40 per two-man team. Teams must be registered by 3 p.m. that day, with the first pitch at 4 p.m.; washers are provided. Teams should register at: [email protected].

The 4th Annual Neon Night 5K will begin at 7 p.m.

It features individual and family entry categories. Each participant receives a glow necklace, T-shirt and reflectors. However, only registrations through Tuesday, Sept. 27, before the event will be guaranteed a shirt. Everyone is invited to look the part; if it’s bright-colored, blinks, shines or glows, it’s perfect. Decorate yourself and come celebrate.

The registration link for the Neon Night 5K Run/Walk and more information are available at: www.fmrotaryfest.com.

All proceeds raised benefit the charities and civic service projects of the Flower Mound Rotary Club and Rotary International.
