Ending on a high note

Mary McGuyer Voices of Flower Mound Choir Concert 005The Voices of Flower Mound (VFM) will perform its spring concert, “We Are the Choir,” in the Flower Mound Community Church, 3415 Cross Timbers Rd., this Saturday, June 4, at 7 p.m.

It will be the final concert directed by founding Director Mary McGuyer since she formed the group 10 years ago. She brought with her extensive experience from work in her home country of Wales, within the educational system, working with similar choirs there and adjudicating choral competitions.

Over the intervening years, she recruited new members, improved the singer’s musical skills and abilities, led 27 successful VFM concerts, as well as countless performances for civic events and joint concerts with other groups.

McGuyer, accompanied by Migeun Chung, will be directing a selection of light classical pieces, some of which will showcase the composers’ and/or the Voices’ sense of humor; particularly “Spoof a la Classique” and “Painless Opera.” Also, featured during the concert will be cellist Beth Paul, along with Victoria Bouton on the violin.

But, few things in life are as certain as the fact that things will eventually change. McGuyer has decided it’s time for her to pursue some of the other projects on her personal “musical bucket list.”

The VFM invites everyone to join them as they sing their final concert with her and express your own well wishes and thanks to her personally for the fine work she has done with the choir.

Advance tickets, available through Friday, are $12 for adults and $8 for seniors and students and may be purchased directly from any choir member, or by using PayPal or a credit card on the Voices website: www.voicesofflowermound.com.

Prices at the door will be $15 and $10 respectively.  For family and group rates, call 214-215-0895.

The Voices of Flower Mound is a non-auditioned, mixed community chorus. VFM is open to all, providing continuing musical education and performance experience for people in and around the Flower Mound area who are interested in the enjoyment of choral music and its production. VFM is fun, flexible and open to many levels of ability. For more information, visit: www.voicesofflowermound.com.
