Letter: Thanks to Flower Mound residents

I¹m writing to thank Flower Mound residents for their generosity in helping children in need worldwide this past Christmas season. Together we were able to collect more than 133,000 shoeboxes in the Dallas and Fort Worth area filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items‹for Operation Christmas Child, the world¹s largest Christmas project of its kind. For many children, these shoeboxes will be the first gifts they have ever received.

At the DFW Processing Center, more than 20,000 volunteers came from around the country to help process, pack, and ship over 645,000 gift filled shoeboxes. The DFW Processing Center is one of nine in the United States. In total, Operation Christmas Child was able to collect nearly 10.5 million shoeboxes worldwide.

Although our local drop-off locations here in the DFW area are closed until November 2015, shoebox gifts can be packed at any time. Operation Christmas Child is a project of the international Christian relief organization Samaritan¹s Purse, and gifts are received year-round at its North Carolina headquarters (801 Bamboo Road, Boone, North Carolina, 28607).

To learn more about this project or year-round volunteer opportunities with Operation Christmas Child, visitsamaritanspurse.org or call 817-595-2230.

Thank you again to everyone who participated in this project. A simple gift, packed with love, can communicate hope and transform the lives of children worldwide.

Sincerely,

Mark Cooper
